Title: Goethe Park and Mayhew Drain Mitigation
Dates: 2007-2010
Location: Sacramento County

seedlings plantedSMP Services was contracted by US Army Corp of Engineers, working closely with Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), and Sacramento County Parks, to transplant elderberry shrubs and oak trees and plant native California tree and shrub seedlings at Goethe Park. The purpose of this project was to mitigate for losses at the Folsom Dam Bridge and Mayhew Levee.

• Transplant 300 Elderberry shrubs from Folsom Dam Bridge to Goethe Park
• Transplant 200 oak trees from Mayhew Levee
• 10,000 LF deer fencing
• Establish 6850 LF maintenance roads
• Native grass seeding and straw mulching
• Regimented pre and post planting weed control
• Design and installation of drip irrigation system
• Planting approximately 7900 trees and shrubs
• 3 year maintenance including irrigation, weed control, disease control, browse control

Title: Guadalupe River Infill Mitigation
Dates: 2007-2010
Location: Santa Clara County, CA

Seedlings on levee slopeSMP Services was contracted to plant and establish native California tree and shrub seedlings at twelve sites along the Guadalupe River in downtown San Jose, CA.

Key features of this project include:
• Landscaping at the downtown Visitors Center
• Grading & excavation
• Native grass seeding and straw mulching
• Regimented pre and post planting weed control
• Design and installation of drip irrigation system
• Planting approximately 2800 trees, shrubs and grass plugs
• 3 year maintenance including irrigation, weed control, disease control, browse control

Title: Fox Creek Revegetation
Dates: 2006-2009
Location: Rio Linda, California
Habitat Types: Seasonal Wetland, Oak Woodland

Beazer Homes contracted with SMP Services, Inc. to design and create a 2.4 acre Preserve Area to serve as the protection of wildlife corridors, water quality and drainage. The Preserve Area is being restored with appropriate native vegetation to create wildlife habitat including seasonal wetlands with associated riparian vegetation, native grassland, and oak-dominated woodlands in the buffer zones.

Title: Sailor Bar Park Mitigation
Date: 2006-2009
Location: Fair Oaks CA, Sacramento County
Habitat Types: Elderberry, Oak Woodland, Chaparral

sailor bar parkSMP Services was contracted by US Army Corp of Engineers, working closely with Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), the Reclamation Board and Sacramento County Parks, to establish and maintain 13 acres of habitat within the American River Parkway at Sailor Bar Park. The project consists of 14 planting areas of Elderberry habitat, oak woodlands and chaparrals. The purpose of this project was to mitigate for losses at an off site flood control project.

• Protection of Elderberry shrubs (Sambucas mexicana)
• Clearing & discing
• Design and installation of drip irrigation system
• Planting approximately 3500 trees and shrubs
• 3 year maintenance including irrigation, weed control, disease control, browse control

Title: Lower American River Mile 10.2
Date: 2005-2008
Location: Sacramento County
Habitat Types: Native Grasses, Oak Woodland, Thicket, Oak Grove

Thicket plantingsUS Army Corp of Engineers, working closely with SAFCA, the Reclamation Board, and Sacramento County Parks, contracted with SMP to create and maintain 10 acres of native grass, oak woodland, oak grove, and thicket habitats within the American River Parkway at River Mile 10.2. The levee at RM 10.2 underwent erosion repairs, filling the levee with rock and covering with excavated soil. SMP then seeded the levee with native grass to stabilize the soil and prevent levee surface erosion. The surrounding thicket acts as a biotechnical stabilization of the earthen slope, protecting it from erosion. The majority of the project site boarders the Jeddah Smith Trail that has a significant amount of daily walkers, runners, and bike riders.

Title: Upper Sacramento Mitigation
Dates: 2004-2008
Location: Colusa County

SMP was selected by the US Army Corp of Engineers to relocate three established Elderberry (sambucas mexicana) shrubs and install and maintain 300 container trees and shrubs consisting of 11 tree and 10 shrub species. Project included clearing and discing, designing river pump irrigation system, erosion control, planting of trees and shrubs. SMP Services maintains the plants providing irrigation, weed control, disease control, and browse control for three years. The purpose of this project was to mitigate for Elderberry loss from a nearby levee construction project.


Title: Slope Revegetation
Dates: 2003-2007
Location: Napa County, CA

As part of the Napa River/Napa Creek Flood Control Project, SMP was selected to provide installation and maintenance approximately 600 container plants and 700 willow pole cuttings. Project included clearing and discing, designing creek pump irrigation system, erosion control, planting of trees, shrubs and pole cuttings. SMP Services maintained the plants providing irrigation, weed control, disease control, and browse control for three years.


Title: Landscape Improvements
Date: 2003
Location: Concord, CA

SMP provided landscape improvements for the US Coast Guard Housing Facility in Concord, California. This project included creating a landscape plan for the entrance into the Housing Facility as well as general improvements throughout the facility.

Key components including the following:
• Creating a landscape plan
• Installing planting beds
• Provide and install landscape lighting
• Provide and install approximately 300 trees and shrubs
• Provide and install moss rock
